Headquarters, Scotland (HQ, Scotland/SCOT)

On 2 April 2012, 2nd Division, headquartered at Craigiehall (Edinburgh) in Scotland was disbanded. 2nd Division had previously been responsible for British Army units in Scotland and Northern Ireland. The General Officer Commanding the 2nd Division subsequently became the General Officer Commanding Scotland, in charge of a new integrated Headquarters, Scotland and 51st (Scottish) Brigade, which took the place of 2nd Division at Craigiehall. The disbanding of 2nd Division and the establishment of Headquarters, Scotland saw the return of a 2 star officer billet to the British Army in Scotland. This had not been the case since the decision was made to replace the administrative Scottish Division with the 2nd Division. The new command structure would be responsible for overseeing the future of the British Army in Scotland during and after the implementation of the recommendations of the 2010 Strategic Defense and Security Review.
