Oil Collection Ship "Bottsand" class (738)
On behalf of the Ministry of Transport, the Navy operates two oil collecting vessels [Ölauffangschiff] of special construction: In its center axis they are, this is made possible by a hinged joint design at the rear. The two fuselage halves can be moved apart to form an open triangle with an apex angle of about 65 degrees; This creates an oil collecting area of about 650 m².
In the triangle the layer of oil is sucked out with a skimming device with a water separator and enters the onboard holding tanks. The suction power is at a two-millimeter-thick oil layer and a ship speed of a node at about 2 x 160 cubic meters per hour.
The "Bottsand" belongs to the Naval Base Command Warnemünde. The "Eversand" is the second ship of this class. She is stationed at the naval base of Wilhelmshaven. These two ships are the Haveriekommando in Cuxhaven each time.
