Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of National Defense Fikri Isik pointed out that Turkey is located in the most problematic region of the world and said, More than half of all the problems in the world are in our region. It is really difficult to live in such a problematic area. In many countries there is no state authority. There is no state authority in Syria, Iraq and many surrounding countries. The region has become a place where terrorist organizations, which have gained a global character, roam. Instability is increasing day by day. Every event affects our country. One of the most important ways to counter these threats is to have armed forces with high deterrent power. For Turkey, this is indispensable. Especially the treatment we were exposed to during the 74 Cyprus operation, the treatment we were exposed to during the fight against terrorism in the 90s, the arms embargoes of our friendly and allied countries, made the domestic defense industry a necessity like bread and water."
"We have made great strides that day. These steps are now clearly reflected in the figures. The defense industry locality rate, which was around 24 percent, reached 60 percent. Today, there is a Turkey that manufactures its own rifles, manufactures its own tanks, builds its own ships, builds its own guns, builds its own drones, builds its own helicopters, and is preparing to build its own aircraft," he said.
