P-71 Serviola
The main mission of the ship as a maritime action force unit, is the protection of national interests in the maritime sovereignty spaces and national interest, with particular attention to the Territorial Sea and the exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
It is trained for:
- Surveillance of the maritime spaces of sovereignty in order to prevent, deter and detect possible criminal activities.
- Recognition of maritime traffic.
- Search, location and tracking of vessels suspected of illegal activities.
- Providing support to other State agencies in the fight against illegal immigration, drug trafficking and other criminal activities.
- Maritime interdiction operations (visit, register and, where appropriate, seizure of ships).
- Provide relief, rescue and assistance at sea.
The ship monts a 3 "/ 50, 2 Browning machine guns of 12.7 mm, 1 MG-42 machine gun and portable weapons such as rifles, CETME assault, STAR pistols and shotguns. In addition, it has 2 semi-rigid boats to approach of vessels suspected of criminal activities, through the length of visit and registration of the own ship or Marine Corps, Naval Special warfare or the State security bodies and forces operating equipment.
The patrol vessel "Serviola" is the first of a series of four patrol vessels built for the Navy in shipyards in the former Empresa Nacional Bazán (now NAVANTIA) in Ferrol in the early 1990s. The ship was launched in 1990 and delivered to the Navy on 2 October 1992. These ships are in the force of maritime action, whose organic command is the units of the Force Commander of maritime action in Ferrol and has its base in the military Arsenal of Ferrol. It is specifically equipped to exercise sovereignty and protection of the national interests in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ), which limit extends up to 200 miles. This has a high range (more than 8000 miles) and capacity to maintain prolonged periods of permanence in the Sea (more than 30 days).
