Fleet Oiler "Marqués de la Ensenada"
The ship, unique of its kind in the Navy, was built in the shipyards of the national company "Bazan" of Ferrol (La Coruña) and delivered to the Navy on 3 June 1991. His first base station was the Arsenal of las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where she remained until July 2000, year in which was transferred to the Naval Base of Rota. The retirement auxiliary vessel "Teide" created an important deficiency in the capacity of provisioning in the sea of the fleet, which was remedied with the construction of the ship's provisioning of combat Patiño.
It should be noted that the Marquis of Ensenada was built at a third of the cost of a vessel in support of large capacity, coupled with his great operability, making of the a very profitable ship for the fleet. Although it was originally named the Mar del Norte, its current name was attributed in honor to Don Zenón de Somodevilla and Bengoechea, Marquis of Ensenada, and Intendant of the Navy, who was Secretary of State and the war Office, Marina, Indies and Hacienda in the reigns of Felipe V and Fernando VI, from 1743 to 1754.
Its main mission is to provide fuel and other important elements to combat ships and onboard aircraft, in the sea so they can operate for long periods away from their bases. The "Marqués de la Ensenada" fleet tanker has participated in many national and international missions which fit to highlight its numerous integrations in groupings permanent NATO "Guaranteed-1" (former "STANAVFORMED") and "Guaranteed-2" (former "STANAVFORLANT"), and international operations as "MARITIME GUARD", "ALBANIAN GUARD", "SHARP GUARD", "ENDURING freedom", "COHERENT BEHAVIOR", "SIERRA JULIETT" and repeatedly into anti-terror deployment in the Mediterranean "ACTIVE ENDEAVOUR".More recently and for 5 months, the fleet tanker "MARQUÉS DE LA ENSENADA" has participated in one of their most important missions of the past years, the operation "ATALANTA", in which, not only he avoided two assaults on merchant ships, but also arrested and later handed 14 pirates to the Kenyan authorities.
