SMX-26 « Caïman» - 2012

displacement800 tons
Length 39.5 meters
Beam 15.5 meters
maximum speed 10 knots
endurance one month
As in 2010 with the SMX-25, DCNS presented a new submarine concept, SMX-26 "Cayman" at the Euronaval fair (22-26 October 2012). This is a small submarine with a water displacement of nearly 800 tons. For example, the shipbuilding engineers devised a submersible to carry out long-range surveillance missions and actions in discretion, all in shallow waters, making it an ideal tool for preparing amphibious operations or coastal combat. For this, the SMX-26 "Cayman" has a flattened form - it is 7.9 m high - to allow it to evolve to 12 meters of depth.

What's more, its navigation system works with sensors capable of giving a 3D rendering of its environment. In addition, it is equipped with 4 electric thrusters both azimuthal, steerable and retractable, which gives it an excellent maneuverability. One of the special features of the SMX-26 is its ability to remain stationary in a given area and to become, in a sense, an intelligence gathering center or a base for special operations. Thanks to a system of retractable wheels, it is able to "stand" on any bottom. As for its dimensions, it measures 39.5 meters long and 15.5 m wide. The maximum speed in diving is 10 knots and the patrol time is one month.
