P 7 South Skåne Regiment

South Skåne Regiment P 7 is an armored regiment which trains national service and regular soldiers for two rapid response battalions, as well as volunteer soldiers of seven Home Guard battalions, the national protection forces. The training prepares soldiers for both national and international missions. The regiment is equipped with armored fighting vehicles including main battle tanks Strv 122 (modified Leopard 2) and CV 90 combat vehicles.

The South Skåne regiment P 7 is based at Revingehed, 20 km east of Lund. The unit is situated close to the Swedish Rescue Training Centre which provides excellent opportunities for cooperation. P 7 also has a number of exercise areas and firing ranges at locations including Rinkaby, Ravlunda and Hammar-Kabusa. These training areas are much in demand and are used by Norwegian and Danish soldiers as well as by Swedish units. The areas, with their unique nature, are very popular with the public for walking when not in use for training.

Many of the exercises that P 7 conducts are directly based on scenarios that can arise on missions abroad, such as combat in urban areas, traffic control and house-to-house searches. Exercise content is adapted to meet the changing needs of the Swedish Armed Forces and the increased level of international involvement. There are normally between about 40 and 550 national service personnel under training with the regiment depending on where in the training cycle the unit is at any particular time. These national service trainees are split up between a number of different companies.

At certain times the regiment trains regular soldiers who are on standby to deploy anywhere in the world at short notice. An example of this is a company set up within the framework of the Nordic Battlegroup, part of the EU's rapid reaction forces. Possible missions abroad can involve anything from humanitarian and peace support tasks to peace enforcement operations.
