Fördelningen / Divisions

Army Fördelningen [distribution or allocation] was the Swedish Army designation during the 20th Century for larger military units, including two or more brigades, one artillery regiment, an engineer battalion, an antiaircraft battalion, one battalion, and when a transport battalion. An army division corresponded to a division in many other countries' armies, and it was common practice in Swedish to use the term "division" when it concerns foreign rather than Swedish units.

At least seven divisions were formed in 1942, two of which were inactivated in 1978, another two in 1993, and another two in 1997. During the 1978 reorganization a new division stood up, only to be inactivated in 1993, at which time another division stood up. Over this period the total number of divisions fluctuated between four and eix, with three remaining by the year 2000. The final allocation omitted divisions from the wartime organization by the "Defense 2000". They were replaced as a transitional period between 2000 and 2004 by the 1st Mekaniserade divisionen [ Mechanized division].
