330 Squadron / 330 skvadron
330 Squadron is the Air Force operated rescue helicopter service in Norway. In 2008 it flew 607 search and rescue missions and 886 ambulance missions, a total of 1493 missions. Distributed by hour, this is 1074 hours of search and rescue missions and 1043 hours on ambulance missions spread over five squadron departments. Since its inception in 1973, the squadron flew more than 28,000 search and rescue and ambulance missions
330 Squadron has five (5) units located at the following bases; Banak, Bodø, Orland, Sola and Rygge. From September 2009, the squadron a detasjement of Florø. The rescue service is subject to Justice Department and operated in peacetime from the main rescue centers. The Ministry of Defence has the Air Force operated the Sea King helicopters, and ensures that major rescue centers have a helicopter at their disposal per base. The service used Sea King helicopter with two pilots, system operator (navigator), engineer, rescue and anesthesia physician.
The Ministry of Justice funded the first Sea King helicopters, which were purchased in 1972. The Sea King rescue helicopter is particularly well suited to operate under Norwegian conditions where bad weather can often be challenging to implement projects.
