KV Ålesund

Lease agreement with KV Ålesund, which is a non-helicopter carrier(YKV) vessel, expired in October 2016. The vessel was chartered by the shipping company Fosnavaag Shipping in Fosnavåg in Herøy municipality on Sunnmøre. KV "Ålesund" was built in 1996 by Myklebust Mechanical Workshop and was put into operational service the following year. The vessel was specially built for military purposes as a Coast Guard Service. A possible replacement of this was included in the 2015 structural assessment. KV Ålesund is a vessel that normally operates in the Norwegian economical zone south of 56 degrees north. The vessel operated from Haakonsvern Navy Base outside of Bergen.

KV «Ålesund» (W312) was a Coast Guard vessel in the Navy of the Extreme Coast Guard, and was responsible for Norway's economic zone south of 65 degrees north. The vessel had its main base at the Haakonsvern battle station outside Bergen. KV Ålesund is one of two vessels in the outer coast guard in southern Norway. Together with KV Bergen, the entire NSE south of 65° N must be covered. The service consisted of 6 weeks on and 3 weeks free of statutory duties. The remaining crew (command and civilian) has 3 weeks and 3 weeks off. This means that crew usually spend 3 weeks on the ocean in stretch, and then have a day or two inside the Hook Conservation. As it was a relatively small vessel, and the vessel is owned by a civilian company, and has civilian operating personnel, there is an informal tone on board, and conscripts participate in many tasks outside of its "field of expertise".

During a year, it was common for a trip north (Jan Mayen / Bjørnøya) and a west west (Shetland / Scotland / Ireland). Outside emerging missions such as search and rescue, it is primarily the inspection of fishing vessels with which they operate. Previously, the vessel belonged to Kystvaktskvadron Sør, but retained its responsibility after the closure on 01 January 2012. KV Ålesund was also the vessel that solved most missions over a year, which made her the Navy's most operational vessel.
