ITS Stromboli - Rifornimento di squadra (AORL)
The two units, the first of its kind that the Italian Navy did after the war, were designed according to modern requirements of logistical support at sea, have of course a lot of importance for the purposes of Naval forces for operations where their achievement represents a significant contribution to increasing the efficiency of the forces.Can carry 3,000 tons of diesel fuel, 1,000 tons of fuel, 400 t. aviation fuel and 300 t. of other supplies. The units have the task of bunkering and various materials to naval units operating groups even helicopter, engaged in offshore operations.
Ship Stromboli was laid down in 1973 at the Cantieri Navali Riuniti di Riva Trigoso, launched on February 20, 1975 and delivered to the Navy 31 October of the same year.The battle flag was donated in Palermo on June 7, 1978 by the local section of the National Association of Sailors of Italy (A.N.M.I.), where the "Godmother" of the ceremony, Lady Carla Costa gave the flag to the unit's first Commander, Captain Sabri.With its 30 years of casework, Stromboli Ship continues to sail the seas and to provide its essential logistical support to units of the Naval Crew and Allied navies.
