Infanterikanonvagn 91 (Ikv 91)

Infanterikanonvagn 91 (Ikv 91) was a support vehicle for the infantry developed by Hagglund and Sons for the Swedish army. Abroad classified Ikv 91 light tank. The first prototype was completed in 1969 and production took place between 1975 and 1978, in 212 copies.

The carriage was built to provide infantry brigades a mobile anti-armor and support weapons. The carriage is built of welded steel and are amphibious. The main weapon is a 90 mm ??low pressure gun developed by Bofors . The result was a cannon that was easier and gave less recoil than a conventional tank cannon. The downside was that you could not make use of sub-caliber ammunition , but had to settle for armor piercing explosive grenades to combat enemy armored vehicles . Against unprotected troops used conventional explosive shells. By providing the carriage with the laser rangefinder and ballistikdator increased probability of a hit with the first shot. The crew consisted of four people, head coach, gunner, driver and charger.

Ikv 91 were included in Norrland and infantry brigades, the troop antitank companies. The areas were partly to directly support the infantry attack, and to act as the brigade's operational control unit by quick movements and surprising ambushes on their own. Band Anti-tank the companies were trained at Skaraborg Regiment (P 4), Södermanland Regiment (P 10) and Norrbotten Regiment (I 19 / P 5). During 1994 and 1995, also trained a band-armor company at the Västerbotten Regiment (I 20). During a period also included bands antitank companies in Södermanland Brigade (MekB 10), a mechanized brigade set up of Södermanland Regiment (P 10). These, however, were replaced later by a tank companies of Centurion stridsvagnar.

Ikv 105

In the 1980s there were plans to replace the 90 mm cannon with a 105 mm cannon, however, so it was considered that the turret and chassis structure was too weak to meet this modification. Hägglund & Sons came on their own in 1983 to manufacture a prototype with 105mm cannon, which was designated Ikv 105 or 105 Infantry cannon wagon, on behalf of India. The carriage was evaluated by India along with the French AMX 10 PAC 90.

India's demands on the vehicle was that it would be fully amphibious and with the ability to shoot in swimming. The caravan's primary armament was a stabilized 105mm lågrekylversion of a high pressure gun from Bofors. The weight was increased from 16.3 tonnes to 18 tonnes and to swim speed was increased to 12 km / h. Furthermore, the carriage was fitted with infrared systems from Saab, which allowed the wagon got full dark capacity. Both the gunnder and the commander were fitted with monitors, which meant that both could shoot. Serial production did not arise because the work on the CV90 started at Hägglunds and the Armed Forces decided to Ikv concept should be abolished.
