Prometheus General support ship

The ship is named after the mythical Prometheus, benefactor and protector of the people against violation of orders of Zeus, gave people among many and fire. The current PGY Prometheus A-374 wa built in Elefsina shipyards based on the designs of support ship ETNA of the Italian Navy. This was its first sailing on 19-2-2002 and raise the flag at 8-7-2003. It is the third ship with this name in the history of the Navy and larger in displacement that ever existed before in the modern Greek Navy [since World War II].

The PGY designed the cover the needs of ships when they operate in areas far from home. In essence these ships is a small Dockyard on board providing the most advanced basis during operations. To cope in this mission becomes clear that large displacement PGY are ships with oil transfer capabilities, water, food, ammunition and food of any kind. At the same time have accommodation, infirmaries etc so that they are able to accommodate crews of small ships which do not have personnel endiaitiseis (Torpilakatoi, Small Underwater Frogman Groups, etc). For the transfer of all of the above materials PGY have transfer systems and cranes.
