D-98 York

YORK was the last of the Type 42 destroyers to be built for the Royal Navy. Launched in 1982 and accepted into service in March 1985, she is the twelfth ship in the Royal Navy to bear the name. Very proud of such a historic name, the ship has a strong affiliation with the City of York who bestowed the Freedom of City on the ship in March 1991.

The Twelfth York

The last HMS YORK was an 8 inch cruiser and sister ship to HMS EXETER. Commissioned in 1930, she had a brief but very active war career ending as one of the casualties in the battle for Crete when she was disabled at Souda Bay on 26 March 1941. Later that spring she was scuttled to prevent her falling into enemy hands.
