Air Force and Air Defense Brigade

The mission of the Air Force and Air Defense Brigade [Brigade VS i PVO] is to ensure the protection of the sovereignty of Bosnia's air space, aviation support units of LF and to assist civil authorities in reaction to natural and other disasters and accidents. The members of the first lineup of the Air Force was conducted on 18 September 2007 in the barracks "Krajiskih Brigade" in Zalužani, Banja Luka. On that day, lined up the following commands and units:

  • Air Force [VS] Command and Air Force, at Barracks "Krajiskih Brigade" Zalužani
  • 1. Skvadron helicopter, at Barracks "Krajiskih Brigade" Zalužani
  • 2. Skvadron helicopter, at Barracks Rajlovac in Rajlovac (Sarajevo)
  • Flight support battalion, at Barracks Rajlovac in Rajlovac (Sarajevo)
  • Air Defense Battalion, at Barracks Rajlovac in Rajlovac (Sarajevo)
  • VOJ Battalion, at Barracks "Krajiskih Brigade" in Zalužani and partly on Ciljuge near Tuzla, and on Mount Kozara which is based radar sites.
  • Aviation Squadron, at Mahovljani airport.

In order to ensure compatibility with aircraft that are in operational use of the member countries of NATO, the Air Repair Institute "AVIAKON in Konotop, Ukraine, made a general overhaul and modernization of the family helicopter Mi-8. In order to meet the above requirements was carried out installation and modernization of identification, communication and radio navigation equipment to 5 helicopters: 2 Mi-8MTV, 2 helicopters Mi-8T, and 1 helicopter Mi-17 (VIP version). Aircraft are now equipped and intercom devices that allow the pilot wearing a helmet, and in the configuration are:

  • Multi band radio (VHF, UHF, FM) - S-mode transporder
  • VOR DME - Weather Radar
  • ADF automatically - Multifunction display
  • IFR GPS - NVG modification

Mi 17 helicopter is equipped with the VIP version with a modern interior, which includes 13 seats and air-conditioning and equipped with the necessary equipment to fly in all Weather conditions during the day and night.

The Barracks Krajiskih Brigade "in Zalužani 28 05. 05th 2008. The exercise was conducted "PLAMEN 2008" and included the exercise of firefighting helicopters Mi-8T with open-fire PPV 2000 and the helicopter Mi-8 MTV with open-FLORY 2600, as well as medical evacuation of wounded by helicopter UH-1H. The mission ispunjavanjau assistance to civil authorities and the population, the brigade conducted an VSiPVO nearly 200 flights, which were in the function of fire fighting, mostly in the Herzegovina region and at that time dropped about 400,000 gallons of water to areas affected by fires. To assist civil authorities in fighting fires is no permanent assignment vs Force and is an integral element of the brigade mission.

The most significant planning activities, in addition to flight training, are planned and the two exercises: Exercise MEDEVAC, fire fighting exercise, as well as combined training and support to infantry units on the "road to the rotation and rotation. Representatives of the MoD and the Armed Forces of BiH held several meetings with representatives of NATO Air Defence Management Directorate (ADMD) implementation of activities aimed to create conditions for implementation of the recommendations of NATO, which will be obtained after the NATO Air Defense Studies. "NATO Air Defense Study" treats the construction of a complete system protivzracne defense and the ultimate goal of all these very complex activity is the inclusion of Air Defense Force in the total system of protection of NATO and partner countries.

After the connections of radar and communication systems that BiH is planning to acquire and build through the Directorate of Civil Aviation of Bosnia and Herzegovina into a single system of monitoring and identification of aircraft in the airspace of Bosnia and Herzegovina, could be crossed in the phase connections of these systems to NATO centers, through the exchange of data on the situation in the air space between NATO and partner countries.

In the area of coordination of air infrastructure, guided the activities of the assignment part of the Airport Ortijes "Mostar, which was given the temporary use of the Federal Directorate for Civil Aviation, Directorate of Civil Aviation, the Border Police of BiH and the International airport of Mostar. The signing of the assignment of temporary use of part of the Airport Ortijes took place in April 2009. In the area of airspace management policy, carried out the visit of the Team for civil-military coordination and search and rescue services (STS) MO BiH Directorate of Civil Aviation of the Republic of Serbia in terms of STS, and Control of Air Navigation of Croatia on the issue of civil-military ATM coordination.
