AVIO S.p.A. - AVIO (Italy)
AVIO is the aerospace company, owned by Carlyle and Finmeccanica, whose mission is addressed to four major lines of business:
- Modules and components for commercial and military aircraft and helicopter propulsion systems.
- MR&O (Maintenance, Repair and Overhauling) and Services for commercial and military aircraft and helicopter propulsion systems.
- Space propulsors and tactical propulsion systems.
- Automation system and aeroderivative engines for naval and industrial applications.
Where commercial engines are concerned, AVIO takes part in major development and production programs as partner. As a "risk and revenue sharing partner", AVIO is responsible for the design, production and after-sales support of the accessory gearbox, a component for which the company is market leader on a world-wide basis, and Low Pressure turbines.
In the field of engines for defence applications, AVIO is system supplier, with responsibilities including the assembly, testing, certification, delivery and after-sales support of aircraft engines for the National Armed Forces. This applies to the EJ200, to equip the modern EF2000 "Typhoon". In the marine sector, AVIO supplies aeroderivative propulsion systems for high-speed ships and for the Italian Navy and the armed forces of other nations. In the space propulsion sector, in 2001, AVIO confirmed the leadership in the design and production of solid and liquid propellant boosters, also used by Ariane 4 and Ariane 5, and earmarked to equip Ariane 5 Evolution.
In order to strengthen its role in these areas, AVIO devotes a large share of its resources to advanced research & development projects, in collaboration with Italian and foreign R&D centres, and makes large investments in process optimisation and on-going training and refresher programs for its personnel. AVIO has extensive participation to numerous European projects.
