Carlos Lage Dávila
Carlos Lage Dávila was born 15 October 1951. Lage is currently the Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Council of Ministers. In addition to that, he is Vice President of the Council of State and a Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba. He was a formerly a medical physician, specializing in pediatrics. Lage is also experienced in economic matters. He was credited with implementing limited reforms that salvaged Cuba's faltering economy in the 1990s after the Soviet Union's collapse. Despite the fact that Castro in recent years has reversed those reforms, foreign businessmen and contacts that had worked with Lage praised his work ethic and economic sense. He is often described as a very practical person who favors a more open-market economy, compared to the dated command/communist economy.
In recent years Fidel Castro assigned Lage to help Felipe PEREZ Roquewith budget related issues. In addition to the budget, Lage had been tapped to help improve the electrical system in Cuba. As a result of his effort, the energy stricken island decreased blackouts and power failures. He has been seen as a possible successor to Fidel Castro or his brother, Raúl Castro
