Vice Admiral Mauricio Soto Gomez
Commander of the Colombian Navy
Vice Admiral Soto was born on June 16, 1948, in Bogota. He graduated from the Naval School of Cadets on June 1, 1968.
He has particpated in ASW training with the U.S. Navy in San Diego, California, and he completed the Department Head course for destroyer officers at the Surface Warfare Officer School, Newport, Rhode Island. He was an instuctor at the Escuela Superior de Guerra (Colombian National War College), and he served as Naval Attaché to the United States in 1993.
His sea duty included command of the training vessel "Gloria" and the gunboat "Leticia".
His shore assignments have included: Chief of Operations and Chief of Staff, Naval Force Atlantic; Commander, Naval Force Pacific; and Chief of the Naval Staff.
On December 1, 2000, he was promoted to the rank of Vice Admiral. He was named Commander of the Navy one week later.
