General Jorge Enrique Mora Rangel
Commander General of Military Forces
Born March 30, 1945, in Cúcuta, Department of Norte de Santander.
General Mora entered the Military School of Cadets at the age of 17. He was commisioned as Sub-Lieutenant of Infantry on December 1, 1964.
He attended the U.S. Army Infantry Officer Advanced course at Fort Benning, Georgia, and the Command and General Staff Course at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. In Colombia, he completed courses of Military Police (Instructor), Military Parachuting, Lanceros (Ranger), Advanced General Staff, and Higher Military Studies.
Since becoming a general officer in 1992, he has held a variety of positions, including Commander,Mobile Brigade 1 (1993); Commander, Special Operations Counterguerilla Command (1994); Commander IVth Army Brigade (1995), Director, D-3 (Operations), Joint General Staff, Military Forces General Command (1996); Director, Escuela Superior de Guerra (Colombian Army War College- 1997); Commander Fifth Division (1998).
On August 15th, 1998, he assumed command of the Colombian Army. On August 9, 2002 he was designated Commander General of the Armed Forces by President Uribe.
