Gorgona coastal survey ship
This unit has a highly qualified crew, trained and qualified to perform various types of maneuvers and operations at sea. Diversity in their capacities allows the vessel to perform mounts echo sounder mono and multibeam for deep bathymetric surveys of midwater and which can produce charts of the Colombian coasts as has been done both in the Caribbean and the Pacific Region.
This maritime platform is in a high degree of operability, a product of repowering receiving propellers and engines generators major repairs to which he was subjected, obtaining a unit with naval security parameters according to international standards.
The last repairs were carried out by the Science and Technology Corporation for Maritime and River Development (Cotecmar) at its plant in Bocagrande in the year 2004 to 2005. In 2010 the ARC Gorgon forward the first phase of the Regional Studies Niño (Erfen) during the cruise # 48, supporting research projects of the Center for Oceanographic Research and Pacific Basins.
The Navy in 1953 commissioned the construction of a herdsman to the company AGA ship - FANO which initiates the project at the end of that year at its plant Lidingö city a few kilometers from Stockholm (Sweden). On January 28, 1955 finished its construction and officially joined the Navy.
His first voyage was made through the Baltic Sea and thence following the ports of Le Havre, Lisbon. Madeira, Puerto Rico and Cartagena. The color of his helmet was gray and was assigned to work in support of the Naval Force Atlantic. His first operation was search and rescue of the crew of ARC Caldas, who fell into the sea on February 28, 1955. Since its construction the ship is distinguished by having the largest lifting crane aboard a ship of the Navy , 10 tons. Later the ship moved to the Pacific Naval Force which continues to support the development of the region through their invaluable support operations community.
According to oral history, it took materials for the construction of prison Gorgona Island. Once the National Government took the decision to close the prison, the ship participated transporting materials to the adequacy of Natural National Park, Gorgona Island. In the year 1991 it was ordered that the color of her hull is changed from gray to white since then distinguishes the "powerful" as it is affectionately called by its crew.
