Xu Qiliang

In 2007 Xu Qiliang became Commander of the PLA Air Force, and appointed a member of the 17th CPC Central Committee and a member of the 17th CPC Central Military Commission. Xu, of Han nationality, was born in Linqu Shandong province in 1950. He joined the PLA and the CPC in 1967and was promoted to the rank of major general in 1991, and lieutenant general in 1996. He attended the 1st Aviation Reserve College of the Air Force, and the 8th Aviation School in 1967, and the 5th Aviation School of Air Force in 1968.

From 1966 to 1967 Xu was a student at the No.1 Reserve Military School of the PLA Air Force. In 1967 Xu attended the Air Force No.5 Military School. Then later that year was a student at the PLA Air Force's No.8 Military School.

From 1969 to 1983 Xu was a pilot in the PLA Air Force Division Command and was promoted from Deputy Battalion Chief to Division Commander of the PLA Air Force's, Division Command.

Then in 1984 Xu was psppointed the Deputy Army Commander of the PLA Air Force. From 1985 to 1988 he was the Chief of Staff of the Shanghai Command Post in the Shanghai Municipality.

From 1986 to 1988 Xu attended the University of National Defense. In 1988 he became the acting Army Commander of the PLA Air Force. Then from 1989 to 1993 Xu was Army Commander of the PLA Air Force. In 1989 he was appointed the Chief of Staff of the Air Force.

Xu was promoted to Major General in 1991and selected as an alternate member for the 14th CPC, Central Committee. From 1993 to 1994 Xu served as Deputy Chief of Staff of the Air Force. From 1994 to 1999 Xu served as Chief of Staff of the Air Force and was promoted to Lieutenant General in 1996.

From 1997 to 2002 Xu served as a member of the 15th CPC Central Committee and in 2000 was appointed Deputy Commander of the Shenyang Military Region in Liaoning Province based out of Shenyang City. From 2000 to 2007 Xu served as Commander of the Shenyang Military Region.

Xu was appointed to the 16th CPC's Central Committee and in 2007 he was promoted to General. As of 2007 he is a member, 17th CPC, Central Committee, Central Military Commission and Commander of the PLA Air Force.
