The history of Wuhu shipbuilding can be traced back to more than 2,700 years ago. Located in the eastern part of the city, this is about 20 miles east of the city. It is the seat of the ancient city and the earliest city of Penghu. According to the "Changjiang Ancient City Site • Wuhu Chuwang City", it was recorded: " This time, there was a decaying wooden boat in the field. " This provided physical evidence for the shipbuilding industry in the early Penghu. According to the "Han Geography", the Han Dynasty set up a "building officer" in Qijiang County, and there is a shipbuilding factory. "The History of Chinese Shipbuilding" also records: "Hanjiang County has set up a boat officer here in Han Dynasty." The Qijiang County here includes the Qingyan River area, an important tributary of the Yangtze River, including Penghu.
In the Ming Dynasty, Wuhu was an important national country. The warship construction base, the court clearly stipulated: Jiangxi Jiujiang and other five guards, made in Wuhu. Kang Xi's "Jiangnan Tongzhi" Yu Guozhu preface: In the Ming Dynasty, "the boat was connected, the merchants arrived, and gathered in Wuhu and Zhenjiang."
By the time of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, due to the repeated implementation of the sea ban, the development of the shipbuilding industry and the improvement of shipbuilding technology were restricted. The shipbuilding industry in Wuhu has been weakened by prosperity. The first state-owned enterprise of the Anhui machinery industry - Wuhu Iron Works, this is the later Wuhu Shipyard. Wuhu Shipyard gradually developed into small and medium-sized steel ships with ship repairs. For a long period of time, it led the development of Wuhu shipbuilding industry and entered the ranks of the country's top ten shipyards, setting a number of China's shipbuilding industry.
On September 20, 1958, Chairman Mao Zedong inspected the Wuhu Shipyard and personally boarded the bridge of the No. 227 torpedo speedboat and galloped over 20 nautical miles on the vast Yangtze River. From 1955 to 1966, Wuhu Shipyard produced a total of 541 military ships, 83.53 million tons, which was written in the history of Wuhu shipbuilding.
