Wu Shengli
In 2008 Wu Shengli was appointed to the 17th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the Central Military Commission(CMC). Wu, was born in 1945 in Wuqiao City, Hebei Province of Han nationality. He joined the PLA in 1964 and with over 40 years in Peoples Navy, is one of China's most experience military commanders. In 2004 Wu was promoted to vice chief of the General Staff and Commander of the Navy.
From 1994 to 2003 Wu held the rank of Rear Admiral, and served as the Navy Deputy Commander of the Guangzhou Military Region in Guangdong Province based out of Guangzhou. At this time Wu was concurrently the Commander of the South China Sea Fleet, Deputy Commander, of East China Sea Fleet, and President of the Dalian Naval Academy at Dalian City in Liaoning Province.
In 2004 Wu was the Deputy Chief of the Headquarters of the General Staff and in 2006 he became the Commander of the PLA Navy. Since 2007 Wu has been a member of the 17th CPC, Central Committee .
