Qianlong 2 / Dragon

Unlike many submersibles, the "Qianlong II" looks like a fish: 3.5 meters long, 1.5 meters high, 1.5 tons in weight, the flat body is bright yellow, and there are 4 "fins" - scientists are kind It is called "yellow fat fish". The unique appearance of "Qianlong No. 2" is unique in China. It is the first time in the world to apply a non-rotating body flat fish shape design, which is beneficial to reduce the vertical surface resistance, facilitate its vertical climb in complex seabed terrain, and enhance surface navigation. ability.

The strange appearance of Qianlong 2 is unique in China. "This is the first international application of a non-rotating body vertical flat fish-shaped design, which is beneficial to reduce the resistance of the vertical surface, facilitates its vertical climb in complex seabed terrain, and can also enhance the ability of navigation on the water surface." Qianlong No. 2 Chief Designer, Liu Jian, a researcher at the Shenyang Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, said, "Our original intention was not to imitate the shape of a fish. The shape design is based on the results of hydrodynamic optimization calculations. I did not expect it to resemble the shape of a fish."

Qianlong No. 2 was designed by the Chinese scientific research personnel with the support of the National 863 Program and developed over five years of hard work. As a set of practical deep-sea detection systems integrating hydrothermal anomaly detection, micro-topography detection, seabed photography and magnetic detection technology, it is mainly used for the exploration operations of deep-sea mineral resources such as polymetallic sulfides.

Before diving, the researchers will implant parameters and mission configuration in the "brain" of the "yellow fat fish", and then put it into the water with a crane; afterwards, the connection between the crane and the submersible will be released, "yellow fat fish" You can dive to the designated area.

It has sinking ballast iron and floating ballast iron installed on it. After launching, it dives under its own gravity. After descending to a predetermined depth, it automatically throws away the sinking ballast iron and then starts the operation. After completing the operation, It will automatically throw away the floating ballast iron to achieve automatic floating, and the staff will then recover it to the mother ship by remote control hook or rope throwing.

Among them, the forward looking sonar is a collision avoidance control device, which can convert the acoustic data collected by the submersible into an image to identify obstacles and the surrounding environment, and then autonomously rotate and avoid to ensure the safety of the aircraft and normal tasks. According to reports, this technology is also used for the first time in China. The sonars on both sides of the sounding side will continuously collect terrain and geomorphological data, perform real-time signal processing, and sweep across the seabed along the planned route.

Supported by batteries, Qianlong 2 can work for more than 30 hours. The 4 "fins" of "Yellow Fat Fish" are actually 4 rotatable thrusters. By manipulating the propeller and rudder to move, Qianlong No. 2 can flexibly advance, retreat, and rotate, and "over the mountains and the mountains" on the seabed.

It has a submarine camera that can take a picture on the bottom of the sea where you can't see your fingers every 7 seconds, and finally form a complete and clear picture of the seabed for analysis and research by scientists. It has a magnetic detector installed at the end of Qianlong II. Some polymetallic sulfide areas are inactive, and the traditional plume detection system is difficult to detect. However, the magnetometer used for the first time in China and independently developed can detect its magnetic anomaly. Compared to Qianlong No. 1, Qianlong No. 2 is more like an off-road vehicle, which can work better in complex terrain: in addition to detecting polymetallic sulfides, it can also detect multi-metal crust resources and obtain the same position at the same time. Acoustic micro-geomorphology, temperature and salt depth, turbidity, methane, redox potential, magnetic force and other data, and then delineate the mineralized area.

"Yellow Fat Fish" has just started out, and has performed well. From February to March 2016, it performed the pilot application task of the second leg of the 40th voyage of the Chinese Ocean in the Southwest Indian Ocean, which was also its first pilot application. The mission carried out a total of 8 dives, 7 of which were long-range detection missions, with an underwater duration of 231.3 hours, a cumulative range of 661.7 kilometers, and a detection area of ??218 square kilometers. The detection data were all complete and valid. In this experimental application, the detection area of ??Qianlong No. 2 exceeded the detection area of ??any deep-sea autonomous underwater robots in my country. The success of 4 consecutive long-range detections also set the highest level of deep-sea autonomous underwater robots in China.

Qianlong No. 2 is China's most advanced deep-sea autonomous underwater robot, which has reached the international advanced level. But its technical level and performance need to be further improved. With the continuous advancement of artificial intelligence technology, it may be possible to apply some of the latest smart technologies to the upgrading of submersibles on the basis of full demonstration in the future. In addition to the improvement of the submersible body and detection technology, experts believe that it is necessary to improve management and strengthen applications.

Qianlong No. 3, the "younger brother" of "Yellow Fat Fish", was expected to conduct the first sea trial in March 2018. It and the Qianlong 2 are twin brothers. They are similar submersibles optimized and upgraded on the basis of them. The ocean is vast and the demand for deep sea exploration is increasing. The main goal of the "Qianlong" family is to target the deep sea. Large-scale fine-grained exploration of resources can better serve ocean resource exploration and deep-sea scientific investigations. Therefore, the number of submersibles of the Qianlong family will continue to increase in the future, and cluster operations and collaborative operations will be carried out.
