School of Naval Engineering

??Harbin Engineering University originated from the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Military Engineering Institute (Harbin Military Engineering) founded in 1953. On June 23, 1952, Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Zhu De, and Peng Dehuai met with Chen Geng in the small meeting room of Huairen Hall, Zhongnanhai, and appointed Chen Geng to establish the Harbin military industry.

?? In accordance with Zhou Enlai’s requirements for early talent development and early results, Dean Chen Geng proposed the “trilateral” school policy of building, teaching and learning by the side. On September 1, 1953, the Military Engineering College of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army was formally established. Mao Zedong issued instructions for the establishment of the college. The college has five departments: Air Force Engineering Department, Artillery Engineering Department, Naval Engineering Department, Armored Force Engineering Department, and Engineering Force Engineering Department.

?? The Naval Engineering Department of the Military Engineering College of the Chinese People's Liberation Army set up the Naval Design and Manufacturing Department. In 1955, the Shipbuilding Division set up two majors: surface ship design and manufacturing and submarine design and manufacturing. The Harbin Military Industry recruited 3 graduate students in the first phase, all of whom were enrolled in the Department of Naval Engineering.

?? From 1960 to 1962, the Military Engineering Academy was divided and rebuilt. The Artillery Engineering Department moved to Wuchang and merged with the Wuchang Advanced Ordnance Technology School to form the Artillery Engineering College, and soon moved to Nanjing (now Nanjing University of Science and Technology ); the Armored Force Engineering Department moved to Xi'an, and the Armored Force Engineering College was established. The Engineering Department moved to Xi’an and later to Nanjing, where it is now the Engineering Department of PLA University of Science and Technology; the Department of Atomic Chemical Protection moved to Changchun, and the Chemical Defense Engineering College (now the Chemical Defense Command Engineering College ) was established; The two majors of airport construction and meteorology were transferred to the Air Force Meteorological School; the school successively established the Department of Atomic Engineering, Missile Engineering, Electronic Engineering, and Computer Engineering.

On April 1, 1966, the military industry institute retired from the military and was renamed the Harbin Institute of Engineering, which was under the leadership of the National Defense Science and Technology Commission. The original two majors of surface ship design and manufacturing and submarine design and manufacturing were changed to two majors of ship principle and ship structural mechanics.

?? In 1970, the State Council and the Central Military Commission decided that some of the cadres and teachers of the Harbin Engineering Institute’s Naval Engineering Department and the former military-industry relations department should be adjusted to the leadership of the Sixth Ministry of Machinery Industry (later China State Shipbuilding Corporation ). Harbin Institute of Shipbuilding Engineering was established on the original site of "Military Industry". The Department of Aeronautical Engineering was moved to Xi’an and merged into the Department of Aircraft Engineering of Northwestern Polytechnical University. Now it has developed into the School of Aeronautics of Northwestern Polytechnical University . The Department of Electronic Engineering, Missile Engineering, Computer Engineering, Basic Courses and Institutions were moved to Changsha, and Changsha was established. Engineering College (now National University of Defense Technology).

?? In 1971, the Department of Ship Design and Manufacturing and the Department of Ship Dynamics formed the Department of Ship Engineering (first department). The professional settings were restored to: submarine design and manufacturing, surface ship design and manufacturing.

?? In 1975, the submarine design and manufacturing and surface ship design and manufacturing majors merged into the ship manufacturing major. In 1978, Harbin Institute of Shipbuilding Engineering was designated as a national key university by the State Education Commission. In 1978, the establishment was adjusted, and the Department of Ship Engineering was set up under the Department of Ship Principles, Ship Structure, and Ocean System Engineering.

In 1981, the fluid mechanics of ship and ocean engineering became the first batch of doctoral programs in China; the first batch of master's programs in structural mechanics of ship and ocean engineering. In 1983, the ship design teaching and research section was restored. In 1985, the Department of Naval Architecture (First Department) was renamed the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering. There are 4 teaching and research departments for ship engineering, ship principle, ship structure, ship design, and ship vibration.

?? In 1986, the ship structural mechanics was awarded the doctoral authorization discipline, and the ship design and manufacturing discipline was awarded the master authorization discipline. In 1987, the undergraduate major of "Marine Engineering" was added (later renamed the major of "Coastal and Ocean Engineering"). In 1988, the setting was adjusted to: ship speed, ship motion, ship maneuverability, ship structural mechanics, ship construction technology, ship design, ship engineering structure laboratory, ship pool laboratory and 8 teaching and research (laboratory) rooms. 1989 Approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council to establish two post-doctoral research mobile stations for shipping and water transport engineering.

?? In 1993, a new ship design teaching and research section was added. In 1997, modern ship design and manufacturing and ship mechanics became the key construction projects of the "211 Project" school. The national postgraduate professional catalog was adjusted, and the three graduate majors of ship fluid mechanics, ship structural mechanics, and ship design and manufacturing were merged into the ship and ocean structure design and manufacturing major. There are two doctoral programs in design and manufacturing of ships and marine structures, and fluid mechanics. And won the first batch of my country's ship and ocean engineering first-level discipline doctoral authorization.

?? In April 1994, with the approval of the former State Education Commission, Harbin Institute of Shipbuilding Engineering was renamed Harbin Engineering University.

In 1998, the original major was merged into one major of marine and ocean engineering, and the integrated teaching and research sections were four teaching and research sections for fluid mechanics, structural mechanics, ship handling, and ship design. The post-doctoral research mobile station of shipbuilding and ocean engineering ranked first in the national evaluation. The post-doctoral mobile station of mechanics was approved to be established. The discipline of ship and marine structure design and manufacturing won the right to set up the first batch of special professors in the country.

?? In 1999, Port, Coastal and Offshore Engineering was awarded the right to confer master's degree. In 2000, three majors were established: ship and ocean engineering, port and waterway and coastal engineering, and water conservancy and hydropower engineering. Newly added 3 teaching and research sections for port and waterway, water conservancy and hydropower, and structural vibration.

?? In 2001, the Heilongjiang Water Transport Planning and Design Institute was merged and renamed the School of Naval Engineering. In 2002, the design and manufacturing of ships and marine structures was approved as a key discipline of the National Defense Science and Technology Commission, and the ship engineering major was rated as a key construction major of the National Defense Science and Technology Commission. The "Key Laboratory of Underwater Intelligent Robot Technology for National Defense Technology" was approved for construction.

?? In 2003, the discipline of mechanics was granted the right to confer a doctor degree in a first-level discipline. In 2004, the marine and marine engineering mechanics was officially listed in the “Tenth Five-Year 211 Project” key discipline construction project in the National Development and Reform Commission’s approval. In 2005, the undergraduate major of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering passed the qualification certification of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects. The "Deep Sea Engineering Technology Research Center" was established, and a 10-person overseas team led by Webster, a member of the American Academy of Engineering, joined. Newly added a marine environment adaptability laboratory. In 2007, the "Multihull Technology Laboratory" was established.

?? In 2008, the school was placed under the management of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China. In 2008, through combing and condensing the subject direction, the organization was adjusted as: Underwater Robot Technology National Defense Science and Technology Key Laboratory, Deep Sea Engineering Technology Center, Ship General and System Technology Institute, Ship and Sea Design and Manufacturing Technology Institute, Ship and Sea Fluid Mechanics Institute , Ship and Sea Structural Mechanics Research Institute, Port Waterway and Offshore Engineering Technology Research Institute.

?? In 2009, it was approved as the "National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering". In 2015, according to the subject direction and existing foundation adjustments, the settings are: Institute of Ocean Vehicle Technology, Institute of Ocean Engineering Technology, Institute of General Technology of Ships and Offshore Platforms, Institute of Fluid Mechanics of Ship and Ocean Engineering, Ship and Ocean Engineering Structures Institute of Mechanics, Ship and Ocean Engineering Experimental Center.
