Haiyan / Petrel

The design of "Haiyan" has a maximum depth of 1500 meters and a maximum range of 1,000 kilometers. It is 1.8 meters long, 0.3 meters in diameter, weighs about 70 kilograms. It has been equipped with conditions for the production and mass production of underwater glider products, which can meet the needs of different users.

In future applications, "Haiyan" may have the opportunity to follow marine animals, dance with whales, and obtain data with a flexible and compact posture for a long time. The load capacity of "Haiyan" is 5 kilograms, and it can become a "transformer" on the seabed by expanding the use of professional instruments such as acoustics and optics, which can show its talents in the field of ocean observation and exploration.

"Haiyan" uses the latest hybrid propulsion technology and can work continuously for about 30 days. Compared to traditional unmanned cableless submersibles (AUV), "Haiyan" underwater glider can be described as light and thin, it is shaped like a torpedo, 1.8 meters long, 0.3 meters in diameter, and weighs about 70 kilograms. It combines buoyancy drive and propeller propulsion technology, not only can achieve the same turning and horizontal movement as AUV , but also has traditional The ability of a glider to glide in profile (ie zigzag zigzag movement).

Since 2009, a new generation of underwater gliders featuring hybrid propulsion technology has become a new trend in international research. It combines the advantages of low energy consumption, low cost, large voyage, controllable motion, and convenient deployment. The ability to work plays an important role in marine science , marine military and other fields. The world's maritime powers apply advanced research results of gliders to the design of military equipment, and internationally relevant technologies and products are not provided to China.

In May 2014, in accordance with the national high-tech research and development plan ( 863 Program ) "Deep Sea Glider Development and Offshore Experimental Research" project arrangement, Tianjin University "Haiyan" participated in the mid-term evaluation of the standardized offshore test, which was successfully completed under the full supervision of a third party With a series of tasks including single-cycle, multi-cycle and long-range, it was the only glider in the South China Sea that has completed all the projects without any troubles.

During the test, the "Haiyan" continued to operate for more than 21 days. During the test, it withstood the test of the harsh sea conditions with a wave height of about 4 meters. The total number of profiles exceeded 210, and the total surface of the continuous voyage exceeded 600 kilometers. In the test, the maximum working depth of Haiyan reached 1094 meters, the maximum glide speed was 1.3 knots (nautical mile/hour), and the maximum horizontal advancing speed was 3 knots (nautical mile/hour).

Chinese sources assert that the underwater unmanned glider "Haiyan" developed by Tianjin University in China may be an ideal combat platform. First of all, in the future, Chinese military industrial enterprises may mass-produce enlarged versions of "Haiyan". This underwater robot can carry large sensors and can detect frogmen, mines and submarines at greater distances. China's anti-submarine capability in the South China Sea is expected to leap forward. In addition, they may even carry weapons to perform underwater escort or attack missions.

In 2014, China accused Vietnam of sending "frogmen" to China-Vietnam confrontational waters. They deployed a large number of obstacles such as fishing nets and floating objects to interfere with Chinese ships. The emergence of the future armed version of "Haiyan" will completely invalidate the interference tactics of the Vietnamese "frogman"-Chinese underwater combat robots will patrol around the drilling platform like a shark. Once they detect that the Vietnamese "frogman" is approaching, they will automatically unfold attack.

At the National Science and Technology Innovation Conference held last year, the 18th Academician Conference of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the 13th Academic Conference of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the 9th National Congress of the Chinese Science and Technology Association, President Xi Jinping repeatedly mentioned deep-sea scientific research! Xi Jinping pointed out that China's major achievements in manned deep diving, high-speed rail, aircraft carrier and other engineering technologies have laid an important foundation for China to become a major country with world influence. Xi Jinping message to scientists: "Deep Sea bears far and cognitive development treasures on earth, to get these treasures, you must enter in the deep sea, deep-sea exploration, development and other aspects of deep sea master the key technology."

Underwater drones or underwater robots are a country's strategic equipment to enter the deep sea. The first country to have reliable and mature underwater drones has a major advantage when entering the deep sea. At present, the United States, Japan, Britain, France, Russia and other world traditional maritime powers are fiercely competing for the control of the deep sea, and they are spared no effort to develop deep sea equipment including underwater drones.
