Exploration 1 working mothership
The working mothership "Exploration 1 / TAN SUO YI HAO", formerly known as "Offshore Oil 299 / HAI YANG SHI YOU 299", is a general platform for deep-sea scientific research, affiliated to the Institute of Deep-Sea Science and Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and locates scientific research and engineering projects based on the target sea area of ??deep-sea submersibles, such as marine resource exploration, geochemical research, marine Biological collection, etc.
"Discover One", formerly known as "Offshore Oil 299", is affiliated to the Sanya Institute of Deep Sea Science and Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences. It is planned to be transformed into a 4,500-meter manned submersible mother ship and a general platform for deep-sea scientific research. On March 13, 2015, Yin Xueming, chairman of CSSC Chengxi Shipbuilding (Guangzhou) Co., Ltd., introduced that in the next year, the "Discovery One" transformation project will complete the main hull lengthening, Reconstruction of living quarters, refitting of a large number of cabin pipelines, installation and commissioning of new equipment, etc. All the renovation and design of this project take into account the factors of green, environmental protection and energy saving, such as energy saving and emission reduction technologies such as ship navigation, noise reduction, vibration reduction, etc., to provide strong support for achieving sustainable and healthy development. The "Discovery One", with a displacement of 6,250 tons, 94.45 meters long and 17.9 meters wide, is a mobile "sea laboratory" that can travel more than 10,000 nautical miles. The most eye-catching is the many core deep-sea scientific research equipment and exploration "artifacts" carried by the "Discovery One". The A-frame with a lifting capacity of 150 tons assembled on the stern of the scientific research ship.
On 10 March 2020, the Chinese Academy of Sciences "Exploration No. 1" scientific research ship was launched in Sanya with the "Deep Sea Warrior" manned submersible, and began the TS16 voyage scientific research mission. It is understood that the general objectives of this voyage include the completion of the test and performance verification of the deck deployment and recovery system prepared by "Exploration One" for a 10,000-meter manned submersible.
On January 13, 2019, "Exploration 2" was successfully launched in Mawei, Fujian. TAN SUO ER HAO was renovated from an ocean engineering vessel. The ship displaces 6,700 tons and is 87.2 meters long and 18.8 meters wide. Its construction started in December 2018 and was completed in June 2020. Equipped with two rudder propellers and two bow thrusters, the ship is completely powered by electricity. It can travel more than 15,000 sea miles and carry a full crew of 60.The ship uses electric propulsion. It is equipped with two full-rotation main thrusters, a channel side thruster and a telescopic propeller. The endurance is more than 15,000 nautical miles. The ship is equipped with a main engine set of nearly 10,000 horsepower and has a class 2 dynamic positioning (DP) capability. The excellent power performance can improve the applicability and on-board rate of the ship in harsh sea conditions.
At the same time, the level 2 dynamic positioning system can automatically maintain the position and heading of the ship in the case of a single failure of the ship, so that the ship has flexible and precise handling performance and improves the ship's operating efficiency. A total of 20 "deep-sea mobile laboratories" were arranged on the two ships, covering various professional directions such as geology, chemistry, and biology. Using the data acquired by the submersible from the 10,000 meters deep sea and the collected geological and biological samples, scientists can perform sample analysis and data processing in the on-site laboratory, and then save the samples through the low-temperature and ultra-low-temperature sample banks configured by the ship, and transfer them to land after approaching the dock. Conduct further research.
Generally speaking, to go to the Mariana Trench "Challenger Abyss" area for sea trials, workers need to report to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at least 6 months in advance to obtain a sea trial permit. Therefore, according to the normal evidence collection process, "Exploration 2" may not be able to participate in the 10,000-meter deep dive test in the second half of 2020. After being informed of the relevant situation, the China Classification Society Guangzhou Plan Approval Center and the Fuzhou Branch of the Classification Society, through pre-preparation, on the premise of meeting the requirements of the regulations, worked overtime and overtime, and completed only 30 copies of China Classification Society in only 3 working days ( CCS) forensics of certificates.
After obtaining the CCS certificate, operators also need to obtain the Nationality Certificate of the Maritime Safety Administration. The Hainan Maritime Safety Administration took the "Exploration 2" as a pilot project and created the first ship registration "one thing for all" in the country, and completed the processing of the required nationality certificate for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in just one day.
On 30 April 2020, the Hainan Maritime Department held a ceremony to issue a ship certificate to the "Exploration 2" ship affiliated to the Institute of Deep Sea Science and Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Tang Gulashan, director of the Marine Equipment and Operations Management Center of the Institute of Deep Sea Science and Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, told reporters that obtaining a ship certificate marks the completion of ship construction. As a result, during the sea trial of the 10,000-meter manned submersible, there will be two mother ships, "Exploration One" and "Exploration Two," which will support and support the mother ship. A total of 120 scientific expedition members can be boarded.
