Sargento Aldea

The "Yelcho" AGS and "Janequeo" were sister ships of ex-ATF 98 Arikara Sargento Aldea [not Sargento Aledea, as widely reported]. Ex-Tekesta (ATF-93) in the Republic of Chile service as the Antarctic research and survey ship Yelcho (AGS-64). USS Potawatomi (ATF-109) was transferred to Chile and renamed Janequeo (AGS-63).

ATF 98 Arikara was built in 1943 in the Charleston Shipbuilders and Drydock Company shipyard of the USA. Its dimensions were: 62 x 11 x 5 meters. On 01 July 1971, he was transferred to the Government of Chile performing since then as a ship's emergency and support of the squadron [though the Library of Congress Country Study describes this vessel as a corvette performing patrol duties, but it also reported this vessel as the Abnaki (ATF-96), which in fact was transferred to Mexico]. Withdrawn from the service by resolution C.J.A. Res. On August 14, 1992 No. 4520/B-692.
