FF-05 "Almirante Cochrane"

Built in the United Kingdom in 1989, HMS "Norfolk" was the first frigate, type 23 of the Duke class to enter service in the Royal Navy. The frigate "Almirante Cochrane" was incorporated into the service of the Navy of Chile on November 22, 2006, at the port of Portsmouth, England, to then carry out training with FOST in Plymouth and arriving at Valparaíso on 14 December 2007, the day that joined the national squad. Among the roles of the vessel stands the surface combat and anti-submarine helicopter embarked, combat surface missile missile, search and antisubmarine attack and naval bombardment.

It is the first type 23 frigate of the Duke class, it began its construction period on December 14, 1985 at the Yarrow Shipbuiders Shipyards, in the United Kingdom. It entered the service of the British Navy on June 1, 1990 under the name HMS "Norfolk." It was designed primarily as an anti-submarine warfare platform, using state-of-the-art technology. Among its most prominent commissions for the Royal Navy is the visit to South Africa in 1994, being the first warship of the British Navy to visit that country, after 20 years, object of showing support for the abolition of Apartheid . He also participated as part of a British Task Force, designed to help restore peace and stability in Sierra Leone in 2000.

He joined the Chilean Navy on November 22, 2006 and arrived at his home port, in Valparaíso, on December 14, 2007. His first Commander was, at that time, Captain Julio Leiva. The frigate has participated in various commissions throughout the country, as a unit dependent on the National Squad. The main roles of the unit are surface and antisubmarine combat with embarked helicopter, surface combat with trans-horizon missiles, search and antisubmarine attack and naval bombardment.

During the years 2018 and 2019 it was the first unit of the Chilean Navy to receive the Integrated Antiaircraft Defense Project, replacing its main radar, combat management system and antiaircraft defense missiles. Its name is a tribute to Thomas Alexander Cochrane , the first Vice Admiral of Chile and one of the founders of the National Navy.

FF 06 "Almirante Condell" is the fourth ship in the institution that bears the name of Vice Admiral Carlos Condell de la Haza. It was built in the shipyards Swan Hunter of the United Kingdom, serving the Royal Navy until the year 2005. Integrates to the Armada de Chile naval list in the English port of Portsmouth on 28 May 2008. Her main roles include the command and control of a unit of task for the search and attack submarines and surface missile missile combat.

The frigate "Almirante Condell", former HMS "Marlborough", is one of the three type 23 Duke class frigates acquired by the Chilean Navy from the Royal Navy. It was built in the Swan Hunter shipyards in the United Kingdom between 1987 and 1991. On May 28, 2008, the frigate was incorporated into the Chilean Navy and on September 16 of that year it set sail from England to Valparaíso, its base port, landing on October 21 and becoming part of the National Squadron. In his transit he visited the ports of Dublin in Ireland and Cartagena de Indias in Colombia. Its first Commander was, at that time, Captain Jorge Cruz.

Since joining the service, the frigate "Condell" has participated in the operations planned by the Naval Operations Command, highlighting joint exercises in the northern area, PASSEX exercises with foreign units passing through our waters, reconnaissance navigations in the southern area , and community support operations. Until 2015, the ship has sailed more than 70,000 nautical miles under the national flag. Among the community support activities, the help provided to Juan Fernández after the 2010 earthquake and tsunami; and the support provided in September 2011 in the emergency of the CASA 212 Air Force plane, also in the Archipelago.

The main roles of the Unit include searching and attacking submarines, and surface combat with trans-horizon missiles. It also performs support functions in the event of disasters and emergencies. The ship owes its name to Rear Admiral Carlos Condell de la Haza , naval hero of the Naval Combat of Punta Gruesa , who also participated in the War against Spain and, during the War of the Pacific, in the Capture and Assault of Pisagua , the blockade and combat to the batteries of Arica and bombardment of Callao.

The spirit of Admiral Condell represents the endowment of this Combat Unit with his warrior and fearless example. This naval hero was able to transform a disadvantage against a superior enemy into a victory that represented a severe blow to the Peruvian navy, the loss of its most powerful ship, the armored frigate "Independencia", in the Naval combat of Punta Thick that glorious May 21, 1879.

Its incorporation to the Navy of Chile takes place ten years later, in Plymouth, on March 27, 2007.
