Botswana - Insignia

The Botswana Defence Force had from 1979 the following decorations and medals:

1. Conduct Valour Cross (CVC) — awarded to any member of the Botswana Defence Force for acts of conspicuous valour performed in action against an enemy.
2. Defence Force Medal for Bravery (DFMB) — awarded to any member of the Botswana Defence Force for conspicuous heroism and courage performed otherwise than in action against an enemy.
3. Conduct Leadership Cross (CLC) — awarded to any member of the Botswana Defence Force for good, practical operational leadership in the face of an enemy.
4. Duty Code Order (DCO) — awarded to any member of the administrative and technical staff of the Botswana Defence Force for devotion to duty.
5. Military Service Medal (MSM) — awarded to any member of the Botswana Defence Force for sound operational conduct in the face of an enemy.
6. Founder Officer Medal (FOM) — awarded to all commissioned officers holding commissions at the formation of the Botswana Defence Force.
7. Distinguished Service Medal (DSM) — awarded to a commissioned officer in the Botswana Defence Force who has completed not less than 20 years' continuous service in the Botswana Defence Force.
8. Long Service Order (LSO) — awarded to any member of the other ranks of the Botswana Defence Force who has had service in the Botswana Defence Force, with good conduct, for a period of not less than 15 years.
