Chittagong Dry Dock Limited
Chittagong Dry Dock Limited (Formerly an enterprise of Bangladesh Steel & Engineering Corporation, carries out ship repair and new building activities in full compliance with the national and international rules, regulations and standards; by maintaining quality, customer satisfaction, safety of personnel, environmental excellence under the top level professionalism with fair and reliable management system together with a technical team of diversified skill; without making any concessions from the professional ethics and principles.
Currently operating under Bangladesh Navy, CDDL was created as a complementary facility to Chittagong Port Authority to cater regular and emergency repair needs of the national flag carrier vessels as well as vessels those touch Chittagong Port. The design and construction of the project was done with Yugoslav technical assistance and its commercial operation started in July 1985.
In March 1985 the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh bas signed an agreement with United Nation's Development Programme and with United Nation's Industrial Development Organisation to carry out an assistance programme at the Chittagong Dry Dock & Heavy Steel Structure Works. Gdansk Shipyard was awarded the Contract no.90/175 to provide technical assistance to Chittagong Dry Dock Ltd. Chittagong , Bangladesh in order to upgrade her operations.
CDDL is the only dry dock in Bangladesh, located on the bank of river Karnaphuli on 48 acres of land within Chittagong Port Area. Its 183 meter grave dock can dock vessels up to 22,000 DWT. Besides, CDDL can perform a wide range of medium to heavy engineering works to support local industries including complete vessel renovation and conversion. This versatile dockyard has more than 40 years experience in the business.
On 23 December 2015, CDDL was handed over to Bangladesh Navy (BN) and now being operated under the management of BN as state owned limited company. CDDL is now expanding its facilities by introducing 2nd dry dock and developing infrastructure for building naval and commercial vessels for both domestic and international market.
The Man Power of Chittagong Dry Dock Limited consists of 62 Officer, 95 Staff, snf 300 Workers. Additional work force (as and when needed) is also arranged through enlisted Sub-Contractors.
