Azerbaijan Air Force - History

Since the first day of its announcement, the PfP has found it necessary to establish the country's air force and has taken the necessary steps in this regard. The Ministry of Defense, led by General Samad bey Mehmandarov, considered the training of national aviation personnel as one of its top priorities. In 1919, a military cooperation agreement was signed between Azerbaijan and Georgia. This document also gave impetus to the PFP's aviation policy. Georgia, then considered Russia's southern "placard", has also become the center of military organizations in the Transcaucasia, including aviation training centers. Therefore, a group of soldiers and officers from Azerbaijan were sent to Georgia to practice. Nine of them had to be trained in military aircraft. Captain Firudin bey Mirza Qajar, Alihuseyn Dadashov, Teymur Mustafayev, Ganjinski, Hasanzadeh, Karasharov and many others were on their way to the group of officers. Thus, for the first time in the history of Azerbaijan's aviation in 1919, a "transnational" flight took place.

"Farman-30" aircraft flew over the Caspian Sea and landed successfully in Krasnovodsk, Turkmenistan. Teymur Khan Afsar was appointed deputy commander of the Air Force on August 19, 1919, order 370, and the establishment of a new body began. In September of that year, the composition of the airline was approved. The squad consisted of 5 officers, 4 officers, 54 regular soldiers and 4 regulars. Finally, by the order of the Deputy Minister of Defense General Aliaga Shikhlinsky on January 26, 1920, the formation of military aviation in the Azerbaijani army began. The new military unit was directly subordinated to the General Civil War, the General Staff. The Azerbaijan Democratic Republic has always been at the forefront of developing aviation, especially military aviation, to increase its defense capability.

S.Mehmandarov's letter on the invitation of experienced aviation experts from England and Italy, as well as negotiations for the purchase of military aircraft from Italy, is a vivid proof. During the second independence of Azerbaijan - on April 8, 1992, Lieutenant - General Lieutenant Vagif Gurbanov escaped from the former Soviet Army's Sitalchay airfield and brought Su-25 fighter jets to the Azerbaijani army. In this way, the Azerbaijan Air Forces adopted the first fighter armament. Soon " Nasosny " - the current Haji Zeynalabdin Tagiyev, commander of the military aviation regiment, Colonel Vladimir KravtsovAs a result of the efforts of Lieutenant Alexander Pleshin (the first commander of the Azerbaijani Air Force) and Colonel Lieutenant Colonel Alexander, the aircraft belonging to the Soviet air base at these bases were subordinated to the Azerbaijani army. Since 1992, a period of reform has begun in Azerbaijan. That year the structure of the organization was nationalized. Major-General Rail Rzayev has been appointed commander of the Air Force. Later, the Air Force was merged with Air Defense Troops. Taking the rank of lieutenant-general , Rail Rzayev continued to work as commander of the Air Force and Air Defense Forces (Air Forces and Air Forces).

In 1994 - after the signing of the cease-fire agreement was the core of the military reform process in Azerbaijan. The reason is clear - the occupied Azerbaijani territories have high relief, and fighter jets, military aircraft, and air-to-air missiles have no value in removing these areas. In 1997, the Azerbaijani Higher Military School of Military Aviation began the release of our first national military aircraft. Thus, a significant portion of the defense money spent in Azerbaijan since 2005 has been spent on the revival of the Air Force and TMAC.
