Afghanistan - Meymaneh
Meymaneh is the capital of Faryab province in northern Afghanistan. It is located near the Uzbekistan border approximately 400km northwest of Kabul. It is home to about 76,000 people.
Meymaneh Provincial Reconstruction Team
The Norwegian military received command of the Meymaneh PRT from the British on 1 September 2005. Finland and Estonia have also contributed troops to the effort. While it is located in a relatively calm part of Afghanistan, the Meymaneh PRT was subject to a massive attack on 7 Februray 2006 that required ground an air support. Following the attack, the PRT upgraded its defenses, began construction of a more secure complex, and added more personnel.
