The LUU-4/B flare, in use by the US armed forces, is an aircraft-deployed search and rescue flare. The flare is simple to deploy and meets stringent operational safety and reliability requirements. The flare can be deployed from any type of aircraft or helicopter. A static line initiates parachute deployment and parachute deployment causes flare ignition.
