Rough Terrain Container Crane (RTCC)

The RTCC is a wheel-mounted crane available through commercial sources. The RTCC is capable of lifting a 20-foot container weighing 44,800 pounds at a radius of 27 feet and a 35/40-foot container weighing 67,200 pounds at a radius of 22 feet. It can be operated on hard surfaces or on soft surfaces when using wooden platform sections to carry the weight. GS ammunition units, located in theater and corps ammunition storage areas, use the RTCC to load or transship 20-foot ANSI/ISO containers from one mode of transportation to another. Transportation units use the RTCC to augment the 50,000-pound rough terrain container handler in the transfer and handling of 20-, 35-, or 40-foot containers and other cargo between transportation modes and in storage areas.

The RTCC is used to transfer 20 and 40 ft. ANSI/ISO containers weighing up to 67,000 lbs. from one mode of transportation to another or to the ground. It is also used to load and unload slinged palletized projectiles weighing up to 15,000 lbs.

Procurement fielded 74 new cranes between 2000 and 2002.

On 05 April 2002 Grove U.S.L.L.C., Shady Grove, Pa., was awarded a $34,170,849 five-year requirements contract, firm-fixed-price and cost-plus fixed-fee contract for the Rough Terrain Container Crane (RTCC). Work was to be performed in Shady Grove, Pa., and is to be completed by March 21, 2007. Contract funds did not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This was a sole-source contract conducted with Grove only. The Tank and Automotive Command, Warren, Mich., is the contracting activity (DAAE07-02-D-T013).
