Phoenix Light
The Phoenix Light is similar in size, shape and weight to the Budd Light. It uses a standard 9-volt battery. It is ideal for marking
and positive identification of individuals, airdrop bundles, vehicles, routes, and landing zones. In company size operations the phoenix
may be used to identify the forward line of troops for night close air support. The Phoenix Light's innovation is a programmable coded flashing signal that can be easily entered and changed by the soldier in the field. It operates in near IR. As with the Budd Light, the Phoenix Light can be viewed by night vision goggles, but not the FLIR system. Air-to-Ground and Ground-to-Ground ranges are greater than Budd Light.
