Battledress Overgarment (BDO)
The Battledress Overgarment (BDO) is a two-piece 4-color Woodland Camouflage patterned garment that is to be worn in all environments when under imminent threat of a chemical attack and after chemical operations have been initiated. The overgarment is worn with a chemical protective mask with butyl hood, butyl gloves and liners, and chemical protective overboots to complete the chemical protective ensemble.
The Battledress Overgarment is a two-layer, two piece garment consisting of coat and trousers. The outer layer is a water repellant treated nylon/cotton twill and the inner liner is a polyurethane foam/nylon tricot laminate impregnated with activated charcoal. The hip-length coat has a stand-up collar and full length sleeves with hook and loop wrist adjustment tabs. Each sleeve has an outside, one-sided bellows pocket with flap positioned below an inner atropine pocket. The coat has two side-opening chest pockets, a slide fastener front closure with intermittent fastener tapes and an enclosed, elasticized drawcord hem. The trousers have a slide fastener front opening with protective flap, two bellows pockets with flaps located at the thigh, two hip pockets with flaps, waist adjustment buckles and straps, suspender loops and belt loops. Each leg opening has a slide fastener at the outseam to control the adjustment opening and a drawcord in the hem.
The BDO has been issued to all Army units for chemical protection, but is no longer in production. As assets are depleted, the BDO will be replaced by the Joint Service Lightweight Integrated Suit Technology (JSLIST) Overgarment.
The outer shell is a 50/50 Nylon/Cotton with a durable water repellent treatment. The liner layer is a charcoal impregnated polyurethane foam/nylon tricot laminate which absorbs chemical agents.
Color: The outer layer is a 4-color Woodland Camouflage Pattern, or 3-color Desert Camouflage Pattern.
Weight: 2.39 kg (6.5 lb) per overgarment (size medium).
Size: 8 sizes; XXX-Small through XX-Large.
Basis of Issue: The overgarment will be issued to all troops requiring chemical protection.
