AN/ASQ-177 PLRS

The AN/ASQ-177, Airborne Unit, is part of the Position Location Reporting System (PLRS). The PLRS is a Command and Control aide that provides automatic, real time position reporting in a division's area of responsibility, accurate to within 15 meters. PLRS equipped units can obtain their own position, range and bearing relative to other units or locations. PLRS units also can establish aircraft corridor guidance and provide an alarm when entering a pre-designated restricted area such as a minefield, and provides a free format abbreviated data message from other users. The system is crypto secure and highly resistant to jamming.

The AN/ASQ-177, is a RT-1344 or RT-1343 mounted in an aircraft. For use in an aircraft the receiver transmitter is placed in a frame and the User Readout (URO) is replaced with a Pilot Control Display Panel (PCDP). Bearing data from the PCDP can be displayed on the cockpit Bearing Direction Indicator via the synchro bearing output.

The AN/ASQ- 177 has a frequency range of 420-450 MHz and a channel bandwidth of 3 MHz.

The AN/ASQ-177(V)1 is mounted on fixed wings while the AN/ASQ-177(V)2 is mounted on rotary wing crafts.

The AN/ASQ- 177 is being manufactured by Hughes for the following platforms: F-16, C-130, A-10, and any other planes necessary to perform close air support, CH-46E, UH-1N/Y, HH-1N, AV-8B.
