George F. Ward Jr.
Humanitarian Assistance
Ward was an officer in the United States Marine Corps, serving in the United States and Vietnam. He began his career in the US Department of State as a Foreign Service Officer with assignments in Germany, Italy, and Washington, working extensively on European security questions. Between 1989 and 1992 he played a leading role in German unification receiving the State Department's Distinguished Honor Award for his service in Germany.
From 1992-1996 he served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs.
He ended his State Department career in 1999 serving in Nambia managing demining programs and a campaign against gender violence.
