Operation POSITIVE FORCE
Task Force Victory
To ensure the security of recently liberated Kuwait, V Corps sent the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment there in Operation POSITIVE FORCE during the summer of 1991 as a residual force to replace the 1st Brigade, 3rd Armored Division. In turn, Task Force Victory, with troops drawn from the 8th Infantry Division, replaced the cavalry. Simultaneously, the deputy corps commander took a task force of V Corps soldiers to northern Iraq in Operation Provide Comfort to ensure the safety of threatened Kurdish refugees who had fled Iraqi military operations against them.
