Operation Swift Sword

Coalition and Iraqi forces searched the villages and farms west of Bayji in an effort to detain insurgents and disrupt terrorist activity as part of Operation Swift Sword April 26-29. Soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division with the assistance of four Iraqi Army companies, the Iraqi Army scouts, 80 Bayji police officers and over 200 emergency security officers undertook the operation, which covered 11 specific areas near Bayji.
The operation resulted in the capture of 17 suspected insurgents and the confiscation of a cache of weapons. The cache included more than 100 artillery rounds, mortar rounds, mines, rocket-propelled grenades, sniper rifles, and 4,500 rounds of ammunition.
