Operation Swamp Fox
Combined Coalition and Iraqi forces engaged, detained, and destroyed insurgent forces in the Muqdadiyah area as part of Operation Swamp Fox in March 2006. The operation was jointly planned by Iraqi and Coalition forces and targetted the "Bread Basket," a rural and predominately Sunni area of Muqdadiyah.
Soldiers from the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Brigade, 5th Iraqi Army Division were supported by Coalition soldiers from 1st Battalion, 32nd Cavalry Regiment, soldiers from Company A, 3rd Battalion, 29th Field Artillery Regiment, Special Forces advisors, and two Air Force K9 teams.
As a result of the operation, Coalition and Iraqi forces detained 104 suspected insurgents and confiscated a cache of weapons. The cache included four AK47s, one AK-47 magazine, three rocket propelled grenades, one shotgun, two 122mm artillery rounds, two 120mm mortar rounds, three 60mm mortar rounds, one 82mm mortar round, artillery fuses, one detonation cord, ten tailfins and one Katusha rocket.
