Operation Lightning Blitz

Soldiers from Multi-National Division-Baghdad and the Iraqi Army discovered and control-detonated three roadside bombs and two weapons caches as part of Operation Lightning Blitz. Soldiers from Reconnaissance Platoon, 3rd Battalion, 1st Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division, and Company B, 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment conducted the operation in order to disrupt terrorist activity in Arab Jabour, southeast of Baghdad.
On May 6 and 7 the soldiers discovered two weapons caches. In total, the two caches contained 46 anti-personnel mines, two 155mm rounds, 15 rocket-propelled grenade rounds, six mortar rounds, eight grenades, four RPGs, eight AK-47 assault rifles with 37 magazines, approximately 3,000 7.62mm rounds, 100 .45mm rounds, 10 9mm rounds, additional RPG and mortar parts and fuses, seven artillery boosters, 11.5 pounds of explosives and various bombmaking materials.
