Operation Kennesaw Dragon
November 14, 2005 - November 15, 2005
Operation Kennesaw Dragon began on Nov. 14 as a joint force of Iraqi and U.S. troops including elements of the 1st Battalion, 1st Brigade, 4th Iraqi Army Division. The troops established a cordon around the town of Dawr. Supported by the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, Soldiers from the 3rd Infantry Division's 1st Brigade Combat Team completed an air landing before moving into Dwar to conduct search operations.
This operation was in response to the 30 attacks against coalition forces that had been reported in the area during the preceding two months. Soldiers went door to door looking for suspected insurgents and illegal weapons. Officials said that many citizens turned over weapons willingly and did not resist the imposition of an overnight curfew. The operation was completed by Nov. 15 and the troops returned to Forward Operating Base Wilson.
