Operation Eagle Thunder III

Operation Eagle Thunder III took place on May 2, 2007 and involved soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 4th Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division, and the 2nd Battalion, 15th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, from Fort Drum, N.Y. The operation resulted in the detention of nine suspected enemies and discovered weapons in Mahmudiyah.
While conducting searches of the area, soldiers found a weapons cache in the reeds that consisted of homemade grenades. Troops also discovered two improvised explosive devices during the operation.
