Operation Commando Hunter

Commando Hunter began on October 2, 2006, when security forces secured the town of al Fariq (sp) in order to open a critical ground route from Yusufiya into a known enemy sanctuary. Based on intelligence, Iraqi soldiers from the 4th Brigade of the 6th Iraqi Army Division secured the surounding area, and began to search for weapons. The operation targeted the al Qaeda network in the Shakariyah Triangle, southwest of Baghdad.
Baghdad's 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, were all involved in the operation that as of October 27, 2006 had found 130 weapons caches, killed five terrorists, and captured 25 suspected enemies. They also seized the abandoned Yusufiyah thermal power plant, which was known to be a staging area for enemies attacks.
