Operation Clean Sweep
Operation Clean Sweep took place in November 2005. U.S. Soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 184th Infantry along with Iraqi forces from the 4th Public Order Brigade and 1st Commando Brigade raided 350 houses and detained 49 suspects in south Baghdad in an attempt to clear neighborhoods of insurgent activity. The area was purported to produce a number of vehicle bombs as well as other improvised explosive devises. 10 of the apprehended suspects were sent to detention facilities.
The operation was intended to clean out an area that was known to be used as a way for insurgents to come towards Baghdad from the south as well as an area that a lot of vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices and improvised explosive devices were coming from U.S. Army sources said.
