Operation Castine

June 18 , 2007

Operation Castine was conducted by Soldiers from the U.S. Army 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment and Soldiers from the 1st Brigade, 11th Iraqi Army Division.

The Coalition and Iraqi Security Forces conducted a cordon and search operation in the Adhamiyah District June 18, resulting in the capture of three suspects caught with materials used in the manufacture of car bombs. A fourth suspect was also detained during the operation.

The operation began before sunrise, when U.S. and Iraqi forces made a tactical foot movement from Coalition Outpost Apache into the Safina neighborhood of Adhamiyah. For the next five hours, Soldiers moved up and down the narrow city streets, searching hundreds of homes looking for illegal weapons and other contraband.
