J. Paul Bremer III
Presidental Envoy

On May 2003, President George Bush named J. Paul Bremer Ambassador Bremer joined the Diplomatic Service in 1966. His overseas assignments included service as political, economic and commercial officer at the American Embassies in Afghanistan and Malawi. From 1976 to 1979, he served as Deputy Ambassador and charge' d'affaires at the American Embassy in Oslo, Norway.

National assignments include Special Assistant and/or Executive Assistant a succession of Secretaries of State. In 1981, he as appointed as Executive Secretary of the State Department and Special Assistant to the Secretary of State.

In 1983 Paul Bremer was named the United States Ambassador to the Netherlands by President Ronald Reagan. In 1986, he was appointed Ambassador-at-Large for Counter Terrorism. He remained a top advisor for terrorism until 1989 when he left the government to become a managing director at Kissinger Associates. In September 1999, Ambassador Bremer was appointed Chairman of the National Commission on Terrorism with the mandate to review US counter terrorism policies.

In October 2001, Ambassador Bremer became Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Crisis Consulting Practice of Marsh Inc.
