Argon Lightning
Exercise "ARGON LIGHTNING" was conducted on 28 March 2001. The exercise was conducted by I Corps as part of their ongoing training and readiness program and was designed to exercise the headquarters element of the 1 st Brigade 25th Infantry Division. This particular brigade is scheduled to be the next "Interim Brigade Combat Team" (IBCT) in the Army's transition from their current organization and structure to the "Army of the 21st Century". In order to better prepare the brigade for an upcoming deployment to the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC) at Ft Polk, the training scenario involved a corps level JTF Headquarters assigned an Internal Defense and Development mission in the country of Cortina (superimposed on the Ft Polk Training Areas). In addition to both an insurgency and conventional threat from Cortina's neighbor Atlantica, the scenario also included a phase which focused on restoration of territorial integrity.
